Love Feast

At least once a year, members of Temple Beth Israel sponsor a meal (typically held at Simpson-Temple United Parish) to feed our neighbors and any who are hungry. Volunteers of all ages come to help prepare, serve, and setup the banquet hall. Altoona has many food insecure families and it is our duty to "feed all those who are hungry".

Making Strides

Our congregation has a Making Strides team & every year we have between 10-15 walkers. Over the years, our team has raised over $5,000. Many of our members have been affected by breast cancer, so this event is very near to our hearts.

Harvest-to-Harvest Food Drive

Each fall we hold a food drive to benefit either the Altoona Food Bank or Sister Paula's Kitchen. Guests & congregants bring non-perishible items between Sukkot & Thanksgiving.

Blessing of the Animals

Similar to our Harvest-to-Harvest food drive, each fall we also hold a pet supply drive during the time we read Parshat Noach (the story of Noah in the Torah). Supplies are collected & donated to the local humane society. Rabbi Audrey also holds a special "Blessing of the Animals" service where congregants may bring their pets to the Temple and recieve a special rabbinic blessing. This is one of our most well-liked events!
